Microstructure Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Flash Butt Welded 590 MPa V-N Microalloyed Heavy-Duty Truck Wheel Steel

This study reports the welded joint of a novel 590 MPa V-N microalloyed wheel steel on microstructure and mechanical properties after flash butt welding. The welding parameters were current 48°/582.0 A, upsetting 44°/516.6 workpiece clearance 1.5 mm. evolution in occurred as follows: seam (ferrite side plate + acicular ferrite +martensite)→coarse-grained zone (acicular granular bainite)→fine-grained (fine-grained M/A island)→base metal (equiaxed pearlite). standard impact energy value seam, coarse grain zone, fine base at −40 °C was 116, 128, 144, 88 J, respectively. property excellent. microstructure, number boundaries, dislocation density directly affected strength hardness joint. increase large angle boundaries decrease effective size beneficial to improvement toughness. hot-rolled had superior weldability.
